We’ve produced patient stories, television commercials and a physician recruitment video for ePlus CancerCare so when they wanted help with patient education they called us. Cancer is awful but ePlus is a lot of fun to work with and it’s an honor to work with their patients, families and healthcare providers.
One of my favorite parts of any project is research – learning, exploring, looking for stories – the places where we connect as humans. We looked at a lot of cancer education videos and talked to patients who were actively in treatment, survivors and family members. We asked them what they wanted to learn about the treatments ahead. Not surprisingly, most weren’t interested in the technical side of treatment, they wanted to know the process, a glimpse of what to expect and they wanted to know there was hope. There’s much to be afraid about – pain, side-effects, family, financial consequences – and beginning the process with a little familiarity about what is about to happen takes the edge off. Eases the burden of fear.
